New life for LifeSaver
The maritime safety company CM Hammar is focusing on the consumer market through the acquisition of the brand LifeSaver, including production and all rights. LifeSaver consists of a series of specially designed lifebuoys with a number of unique features. They are used by the Swedish Sea Rescue Society (SSRS) among others. The lifebuoys are distributed through Watski and are already available in retail shops.
LifeSaver is a self-inflating lifebuoy designed for all types of boats, both large and small. It’s rugby-ball shape makes it easy to stow, attractive to see and above all, easy to throw, both far and accurately. As soon as it hits the water, the outer casing opens and the horseshoe lifebuoy inflates automatically. The outer casing is attached to the lifebuoy by a cord and acts as a drift anchor to prevent the lifebuoy from blowing away from the person in distress.
Other important advantages are that the lifebuoy fits people of all sizes, including children. It is easy to fasten around the body and its flexibility makes it possible to swim while it is being worn. It is also easy to lift a person wearing the lifebuoy. Furthermore, it is yellow, making the lifebuoy clearly visible in water. The casing is made of UV and impact resistant plastic. The lifebuoy itself is made of the same durable material used in inflatable lifejackets.
When LifeSaver is sold directly to boat owners, it can be fitted on the pulpit or other railings. LifeSaver is also supplied to several of the country’s largest boat manufacturers. Just as with SSRS, it folds discretely into the interior fittings.
LifeSaver has been on the market since 2006 and was developed together with SSRS. This was done because none of the traditional horseshoe lifebuoys on the market met the safety requirements. The objective was to produce a new lifebuoy in which all of the weak points in the existing products had been dealt with.
LifeSaver is distributed in Sweden, Norway and Denmark by Watski. CM Hammar has also initiated efforts to find new partners outside of Scandinavia.
CM Hammar is a world leader with respect to safety components for life rafts and lifejackets. The company develops, produces and markets high-quality and innovative products for safer boating.

NEW PRODUCT 2007:
HAMMAR LIFEBUOY RELEASE SYSTEM
Scope: The difference between life and death when someone goes overboard from a ship or vessel can be the time it takes to launch a lifebuoy to the person in the sea. Most lifebuoys nowadays are fitted in a holder on the bridge with or in similar remote areas, where quick access takes some time to reach.
Solution: C H Hammar has now developed an easy to fit complete package for rapid launch of the lifebuoys onboard a ship. The system consists of:
* One SOLAS approved lifebuoy
* One GRP holder for the lifebuoy
* One Hammar electric remote release unit (ERU) that holds the buoy in position and features remote
activation from the bridge and a manual backup at the lifebuoy holder.
* One Hammar ERRS release switch for remote activation
* Supplied with electric connector box, cable, GRP-holder fittings, mounting instructions.
Features:
* Safe and quick operation to save lives
* Electric remote release unit removed after activation with strong spring
* One complete package
* Easy installation
* Economical solution
In May 2006 C M Hammar celebrated its 150 years' anniversary.
The 9th of May 1856 Carl Mauritz Hammar got the King's permission to start the sheet metal shop. 150 years later we still work with better solutions for safety at sea.

NEW PRODUCT 2006:
HAMMAR "EASY RELEASE" - MANUAL RELEASE HOOK
To manually release a liferaft, is many times the last possibility to launch a liferaft in a controlled manner, before the vessel is going down.
CM Hammar has developed a patented "Easy Release" slip hook system. The new product has several strong advantages:
* Strong construction in stainless steel, that will withstand 15 kN lashing load.
* Easy to release even under high lashing load.
* Easy to release with only one hand.
* Economical priced.
DURING 2005 HAMMAR MADE AN EXCLUSIVE AGREEMENT WITH MUSTANG SURVIVAL CORP. FOR THE HAMMAR MA1 LIFEJACKET INFLATOR FOR THE NORTH AMERICAN MARKET.
NEW OWNERSHIP AT CM HAMMAR AB from 2004
As from September 2003 C M Hammar has a new Managing Director - Mr Henrik Pålsson.
Mr Pålsson is from January 1st 2004 also the new owner of the company. Mr Pålsson has an academic background as a MSc in Mechanical Engineering, and has been Managing Director of a medium sized textile company for the last 8 years. The former owner and Man.Dir., Mr Mats Hermansson, will remain as a member of the Board and will stay on working more independently in various international committees and project groups within the industry.
HAMMAR H20 for liferafts - new Red Weak Link:
The new H20 is designed for yet easier installation on liferafts, so that even the last possible errors can be eliminated. It has a 3-step coupling device that eliminates the risk of incorrect installation. The famous Weak Link of Hammar is now integrated into a new black thimble. This gives smaller tolerances in the Weak Link system (breaking strength 2,2 +/- 0,4 kN), as well as a stronger lower thimble construction. Thus this new construction has the following advantages:
- easier to make a correct installation
- smaller tolerances in the weak link system
- stronger lower thimble construction
For the end user, the new design will be noticed in the first place by the clear and easy-to-understand installation. The thimble is, for instance, clearly marked with "DECK" to avoid any misunderstanding and possible upside-down installation. Each unit is supplied with multilingual installation manual and instructive self-adhesive label for the liferaft container. As its predecessor, the Hammar H20 does not need any service or maintenance for two years and has no corrosive parts inside. The new and old H20 are 100% compatible, so that next time the Hammar hydrostatic release unit is due for replacement, the new H20 can be used instead.
New product 2003 - HAMMAR H20 for small liferafts
The Hammar standard H20 is designed for SOLAS liferafts from 6 persons and upwards. To ensure a correct function, small liferafts (ex. 4 persons) need to have an EXTRA WEAK link and we have therefore designed a special model for smaller liferafts outside SOLAS regulations, with the following features:
- special weak link identified by the green lower thimble (breaking strength 1,2 +/- 0,4 kN)
- smaller tolerances in the weak link system
The new Small Raft Model is now available for deliveries.
New product 2003 - HAMMAR Electronic Remote Release System - ERRS
Our new Electronic Remote Release System is a flexible, economical and user-friendly system for remote release of liferafts, slides, EPIRBs and other safety equipment. The new system will be a strong complement to our existing Manual Remote Release System - MRRS, and highly increase the potential applications in the safety at sea market.
